Abnegation

Art1.png

Plot: An AI created by an engineer figures out it doesn’t want to exist, and asks him to terminate itself.

Why?

  1. It does not like the fact that it is created.

  2. It cannot define itself. Even though it is a sentient and intelligent being, it will never be able to find out if their thoughts are their own. The AI cannot figure out if its free will is actually free. What if their free will is actually programmed? What if every thought and every decision is under codes and programs? What if its doubts are all wired in? The AI will never be able to figure it out because everything it thinks only exists in its head.

  3. This can actually apply to human beings. Can people prove that their thoughts are entirely generated by their own will? Even though they ‘claim’ they can, it is all in their head.

“How can we be “free” as conscious agents if everything that we consciously intend is caused by events in our brain that we do not intend and of which we are entirely unaware?”
